Sequence 19 — Synoptic Integration
The major whole-course synoptic stage: analysing, designing, implementing/testing and evaluating solutions to unfamiliar problems, integrating Year 12 and Year 13 rather than introducing large amounts of isolated new content. AQA retrieval across Units 4.1–4.13.
Analysing Computational Problems
- Analyse unfamiliar computational problems by identifying objectives, constraints, inputs, outputs and success criteria
- Decompose a problem into smaller, independently solvable sub-problems
Lesson ready
Designing Computational Solutions
- Select appropriate algorithms, data structures and programming techniques to solve complex problems
- Justify a design choice against a problem's actual requirements, without defaulting to whichever tool was most recently taught
Lesson ready
Implementing & Testing Solutions
- Implement designed solutions systematically
- Apply appropriate validation, verification and testing strategies
Lesson ready
Evaluating & Refining Solutions
- Evaluate completed solutions against the original requirements
- Recommend improvements based on evidence, weighed against the cost of making them
